The Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence track applicants geographically according to Intermediate Unit regions. The state is divided into 29 regions, each of which has a regional educational service agency called an Intermediate Unit. Every school district is assigned to an Intermediate Unit. For the purposes of a Governor's School application, the applicable Intermediate Unit is the one serving the school district in which the student's family or legal guardian lives full time. For general information about Intermediate Units, see http://www.paiu.org/.
A family that is not sure which is its Intermediate Unit may call the PGSE Information Line at (570) 524-5244 for assistance in identifying it. Additionally, there is a detailed map of Intermediate Units and school districts located at http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Internet/Bureaus/

The Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence are indebted to the Intermediate Units for their service in distributing applications to the schools and for conducting the first level of screening for the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts. Arts applicants are reminded that their applications must be submitted to the regional Intermediate Unit serving the region in which they reside on a full-time basis.
