BENEFITS OF APPLYING TO A PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL
Access to unique scholarship opportunities: Graduates of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools of Excellence are eligible for exclusive merit scholarships offered by many private and state colleges and universities in the state. Students and their families are provided with a directory of the available scholarships after they return home from Governor’s School.
Graduates are valued by higher education: The annual directory of Governor’s School merit scholarships came about in the early 1990’s because colleges and universities were constantly requesting access to recruit Governor’s School students. Governor’s School graduates are a recognized commodity: talented, focused, committed, and experienced in campus living. Only those colleges that participate in the merit scholarship directory have access to student names and addresses via parental permission.
Learning “the ropes” of college admissions: Governor’s School applications compare to college applications. The Governor’s School for the Arts requires creative artists to produce portfolios of their work and performing artists to provide video or audio documentation, which are typically required as part of the admissions process at art schools and conservatories. The other Governor’s Schools require essays, transcripts, teacher references and a guidance counselor recommendation, which conform to typical college applications.
Career and college counseling: Governor’s School students are exposed to a broad array of career options in their field and receive advice on how best to prepare for the professional world. They learn about negotiating higher education paths to their goals.
College recommendations: The Governor’s Schools are pleased to provide recommendations on behalf of graduates in good standing.

Governor’s School is affordable: The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pays for tuition, room and board, instructional materials and program activities for the five-week period.
